Kindle Romance: 'The Other Side of Us' by Sarah Mayberry

Kindle Romance

Title     - The Other Side of Us
Author - Sarah Mayberry
Stars    - 5

The Other Side of Us:
Luckily, between Oliver and Mackenzie is a fence. Oliver's friendly gestures towards his new neighbour are met with a cool reaction, so he resolves to ignore her. He is there to get his life back on course and that didn’t mean trying to get on her good side.

However, his plans are thwarted, when his dog becomes enamoured with hers. After that, it doesn't take long for a potent chemistry to develop between Oliver and Mackenzie. They come to realise that initial thoughts are not necessarily the right ones.

 Product Details

The Other Side of Us opens with the central characters in anguish, but shows how to win through with the support of others.

The dialogue is convincing, the plot convincing, their worries believable. Sex in this book is steamy and explicit, leaving little to the imagination.

The Other Side of Us is a satisfying read, a decent romance.

Waking Up Married

Kindle Romance

Title - Waking Up Married
Author - Mira Lyn Kelly
Stars - 4

Waking Up Married:

Up until now, unearthing even a boyfriend had seemed impossible. Yet, a few martinis with Connor and she's gone from first meeting to marriage in one night.

Megan wants a lawyer. However, Connor has a surprise for her… he doesn’t want a divorce.

Product Details

Waking Up Married:
The main protagonists of Waking Up Married, although not entirely believable, are agreeable. The wit in the story is dry and well-presented, the passion believable. Waking Up Married is not a long novel so things are perhaps not as thoroughly developed as some stories. But having said that this is an undemanding and  enjoyable read.

Break Me Slowly
has just the right level of excitement, spectacle, and crisis without the central characters going too far. Joya Ryan manages to suspend disbelief without giving you brain surgery.  Break Me Slowly ends up with the right mix of cuteness, torment, and sexiness, to be a good read. Enjoy!

Stars   - 3.5

However, her uncle develops heart disease, and she flies back to convince him to take surgery to save his life. The first thing she sees when she steps off the plane is her biggest nightmare...the man she not once stopped loving.

However, she has returned to Texas, and he's going to do all he can to win back her love.
Product Details

Her Heart for the Asking is a light-weight read. The story is pleasant, slips away the time and permits a dreamless sleep.
No work or concentration is required in reading. The central characters know what they feel like, and try to obtain it in an undiluted approach.

An okay book, no great shakes, no great problems.

It's In His Kiss

Kindle Romance Book Review

Author - Mallory Kane
Title     - It's In His Kiss
Stars   - 3.5

It's In His Kiss
Cat and her fiancé finish on a sour note and she is out of a place to live. As usual, her friend Michael is there to help her through it and pick up the pieces. He and Cat have been friends most of their lives, and it seems only natural for Michael to suggest that Cat stay in his apartment until she finds a place of her own. Neither one of them is primed for the fire that ignites between them.
Cat is afraid that if she falls for Michael, she'll screw it up like she always does. Michael is fearful she'll never love him as much as he loves her.
Product Details

It's In His Kiss is an okay book, but I felt like Cat bleated too much. While the story is acceptable, for me, the book failed to get something vital going, giving an impression that there is insufficient strength in the detail. There are a few minor editing errors, which need to be ironed. Sex scenes are thin and not raunchy.

However, if you enjoy a light read with a happily ever after, then It's In His Kiss might be for you.

Dane

Kindle Romance

Title     - Dane
Author - Liliana Hart
Stars   - 3
Dane:
Dane returns to his hometown. It is ten years since he left the woman he loved to make a name for himself, but now he’s resolved to claim her once and for all.

Charlotte has no intention of welcoming him back into her life. Her resentment of Dane’s treachery runs deep, and she has no plans to let him hurt her again, especially since she’s trying to protect the son that Dane doesn’t even know exists.

 Product Details

The writing is reasonable, and the characters have potential. The problem is the plot moves too fast for comfort.  The story has promise, but for me, it is too short to care about the characters. These things take time to develop. Too much was left unexpressed and not all problems were addressed.

Kindle Romance: 'Scent of Woman' by Ellie Jones

Kindle Romance

Author - Ellie Jones
Title     - Scent of Woman
Stars   - 5

Scent of Woman:
Since losing her husband, Debbie hasn’t been with many men, but it doesn't mean she's ready to be retired from the love stakes. For most of her adult life she's put her requirements on back burner, to raise Samantha. Things really should change.

When her daughter’s mentor, Elliot, breezes into her life, Debbie ignores her instant fascination with the younger man. He has a reputation for dodging women who chase him, so what chance does she stand.

Another stimulating love story from Ellie Jones.

Scent Of Woman should prove popular amongst discerning women everywhere. If Fifty Shades of Grey can be described as 'Mummy Porn', then Scent Of Woman is reading for serious adults.

The characters of Scent Of Woman come across as authentic people with real hopes and desires, the dialogue is realistic, and the narrative evocative. The tempo of the story is fast, the ending something of a tear-jerker - in the nicest possible way, and the sexual content could not be hotter. What more would anyone want?

Weekends Required

Romance Books for Kindle

Author - Sydney Landon
Title     - Weekends Required
Stars   - 3.5

 Weekends Required:
Claire’s boss, Jason, never thought of her as a woman until she jumped out of a cake at his friend's party.

Claire has taken a second job in party planning to support her sick mother. She is dismayed when Jason not only finds out, but has a front-row view of her exploits.

With Jason merging with another company, Claire is required to travel with him, as well as work weekends. All the fantasies she entertained about her boss seem to be coming true. Her best friend Suzy thinks that just getting laid will solve everything. The problem is, Claire sees much more in Jason than mere sex.

Product Details

The storyline of Weekends Required is entertaining. However, at times the dialogue comes across as stilted. The grammar also needs attention, such as the incorrect use of semicolons. At times, grammar spoils what is otherwise an entertaining story.

Weekends Required is an office romance with a twist. The relationship between Claire, Jason, and Claire's friend Suzy is a laugh. The story is amusing at times, the romance acceptable, and the conclusion satisfying. What more can you ask for in a snug romance.

The Reiver

Kindle Romance Book Review

Author - Jackie Barbosa
Title     - The Reiver
Stars   - 3

The Reiver:
Duncan, laird of Lochmorton Castle, is surprised to find that the reiver captured in a raid on his lands is not a boy, but a young woman. She refuses to tell him her name or how she came to be riding with a raiding party.
Duncan cannot stomach imprisoning a woman in his castle dungeon yet neither can he let her go her without reimbursement. Not able to ransom her back to her family, he treats her as a visitor.
He takes to calling her Reva and resolves to seduce the truth of her identity from her. There is a drawback, the reiver may steal his heart before he can reveal her secrets.

Product Details

The Reiver starts off on a good premise. The protagonists, dialogue and background are very acceptable, and I quite liked The Reiver female central character. However, the story needs to be fleshed out and developed a little more.

The storyline of The Reiver seems too rushed with too many loose ends hanging around such as having no real evolution of the love affair. The romance just suddenly ‘happens’ with no build-up or explanation.

Heartfire

Kindle Romance

Author - Karen Rose Smith
Title     - Heartfire
Stars   - 3

Heartfire:
Tessa, a celebrated journalist, is falling in love with her best friend's husband all over again! Tessa and Max dated before he met Leslie. But then Tessa left with secrets and dreams to follow her career, and Max married Leslie.  Max was overwhelmed when he lost his wife, and mother to his son.

Tessa and Max are searching for love but the little boy who clutches his own secret. They could be a real family if they could all be honest with each other. Passion has been burning for years. Can it lead to everlasting love?

 Product Details

Heartfire is a sweet romance about closeness, love and searching for happily-ever-after

Heartfire has a good plot, but somehow lacks that special spark of emotion. There was little passion in the story, so if you’re looking for steam, look elsewhere. Heartfire is a sugary story, but unsurprising.

All Of You

Kindle Romance
Author - Kelsey Maxwell
Title     - All Of You
Stars   - 4

All Of You:
Sukie has got over breast cancer, a change in jobs and survived a neighbourhood of nosy people.

Will she be able to live through the agonizing lure of the local hockey hero who has been in possession of her heart since childhood? Can she survive the one night of passion they’ve promised each other, without getting hurt?

Product Details

All Of You is not built on bizarre situations or intricate plot lines; it is just good old fashioned romance with tasteful sex.
The dialogue of All Of You is realistic and character development good. Most characters are quite well portrayed, but Sukie comes across as a person you want to hold in your arms and make your best friend.

All Of You is a feel-good story that you will probably enjoy.

The Millionaire's Nanny

Kindle Romance

Author - Carol Grace
Title     - The Millionaire's Nanny
Stars   - 3

The Millionaire's Nanny

Maggie is resolved to be the textbook nanny, and gives her all. Nothing in the tuition at Nanny School prepared her for the child’s sensual father. Garrett is her employer for heaven’s sake and off-limits according to the Nanny Book of Unbreakable Rules.

She can handle any childhood crisis, but how can she preserve her distance when passion zings between them every time Garrett is close?

Garrett is angry at the nanny agency for sending Maggie. The last thing he needed was a beautiful woman in his house. He’d given his heart to one before, and he wasn’t going to let that happen again. However, Christmas is approaching and Maggie has already brought a cosy, womanlike atmosphere into his home and Garrett finds his self-control weakening.

 Product Details

The Millionaire's Nanny is a relaxing romance that is an okay way to pass a summer afternoon. Make ready for a pleasant read.

The Millionaire's Nanny isn’t original, and you might guess how the story is going to end, but sometimes it's nice to read a love story from beginning to end and wish that these things actually happen. The characters are likeable and the dialogue realistic. In general, a gentle read.

Ecstasy

Kindle Romance

Author - Bella Andre
Title     - Ecstasy
Stars   - 4

Ecstasy:
Candace, a new author of erotica, is delighted when Charlie, an experienced writer of the genre, consents to be her guide. Neither of them anticipated that Charlie's instructions would corkscrew into sizzling, hands on tuition. Regrettably, Candace's ruse about her new book, where Charlie is the central character, is about to jeopardize their one chance at true love.

Product Details

Ecstasy is an interesting read. The storyline is high-speed, with decent development of the central characters, and a valid plot. Most books in the erotica genre seem to be missing a plot, so it definitely scores well there.

Maybe Ecstasy should have been tagged as erotic romantic not just contemporary romance, but there again these sub-genres are notoriously difficult to nail. The problem is if sexy scenes or explicit detail is not your thing, you need to be aware that Ecstasy contains both.

Overall a decent read.
